Discussion: Service-Learning – Part 3 – Reflection
Service Learning is a teaching and learning strategy that allows you to become involved in the community. The service-learning project needs to have purpose and it requires you to participate with the organization, not just donate things. For this reflection, you are to answer the following questions as an initial post to the discussion board:
Where did you complete your service learning, and what is the mission of the organization?
What did you contribute to the organization?
How did the activity you completed relate to what you have learned in regards to the health sciences?
How did your institution socially impact the local community?
Did your volunteering impact the community? Explain how it impacted or did not impact the community.
What changes could the institution make to socially integrate itself better within the community?

Imagine that you had a billion dollars to contribute to health sciences. Describe an organization to which you would contribute a significant amount of money.
Go to this organization’s website and summarize this organization’s mission statement.
How does this organization socially impact local communities?
List three way that your contribution could aid in the advancement of this organization’s mission statement.
What significant changes would you make to this organization to socially integrate itself better within the community?
Each student should respond to at least threeacceptable responses include:
constructively critiquing your classmate’s description of their method
answering any questions posed or filling in gaps that you may see
asking questions that the original poster or any subsequent student may answer
identifying in a personal way to the post’s content and explaining how it is relevant to you
Students will receive up to 60 points for completing the Service-Learning Reflection Discussion Board and submitting it by the deadline. This will be graded using the Service-Learning Discussion Board Rubric.
