1. (Psychosocial Factors) Psychosocial factors can impact well-being. For example poverty can affect our health in many different ways. Also besides our physical health, things which occur like unemployment and a bad economy can cause depression and anxiety. In addition these issues can trigger social problems. For example, when the rate of unemployment is high, the rate of child abuse and domestic violence increases. After the 911 attacks, there was an increase in the substance abuse rate. Thus we are greatly affected by our surroundings and in turn affect others.

2. (Culture and Obesity)The subject of obesity has been an important topic lately. Obesity rates has been increasing and has caused great concern across many countries. This section of the chapter discuss that most over weight and obese children will become obese as adults. Adults that become obese usually are at greater risk for several health issues. The result can lead to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, or cancer. Obesity is measured by calculating the BMI. Body-mass index (BMI) is “calculated as the weight in kilograms divided by the square of the height in meters” (Matsumoto & Juang, 2013). The United States has the highest obesity rate compared to other countries. There are many factors that contribute to obesity such as unhealthy diet, life style, or no physical activity. Fast food is one of the many contributors of obesity in the United States.

3. (Subjective Well-Being) Subjective well-being is the focus of one’s perceptions and self-judgments of health and well-being (Matsumoto & Juang, 2013). Subjective well-being is all about measuring the improvement of someone’s life, or focus on how to improve someone life. Matsumoto and Juang (2013) stated that subjective well-being is positively related to physical health. Subjective well-being include cognitive and emotional aspects. Cognitive aspects involve external factors and life while emotional aspects are internal.

4. (Perspectives)I think it is so interesting that some of the earliest contributions to our understanding of the relationship between personality and culture came from anthropologists who were interested in the field of psychology. Who would have known? This confirms to me that if all of the fields work together, we can get more done and find out more then we ever imagined. The basis of the anthropological works formed the basis for the idea of a national character. A national character refers to the idea that each culture has a specific personality type, and that each member of that culture embodies it and shares some aspects of it. The anthropological view sees personality as something that is culturally specific. They still believe that biological factors contribute and are important, but that they are less important than cultural factors. The Anthropological Perspective states that the foundations of personality are already set and determined by each culture’s unique cultural traits.

5. (Defining Personality)The chapter starts by explaining personality and defining all of the terms related to personality. Personality is defined as “a broad concept that refers to many aspects of an individual’s unique characteristics” (Matsumoto & Juang, 2013). Personality is the specific qualities or characteristics that makes a person unique. Traits of a person are, “characteristics or quality distinguishing a person” (Matsumoto & Juang, 2013). Traits are usually related to someone’s behavior, thoughts, or feelings. Identity of personality describes the “perceived roles in life, aggregate role and life experiences, narratives, values, and motives”, according to Matsumoto and Juang (2013).
